It’s just a couple hours away from Paris, but Strasbourg, France feels like an entirely different place. Located in the Alsace region of France, Strasbourg is known for its medieval architecture, colorful buildings and scenic canals. Strasbourg calls itself the “Capitale de Noel” (Capital of Christmas), and it certainly lives up to that title with more than 300 outdoor stalls at its Christkindelsmärik.
The old town center looks like a fairy-tale village, but it really comes alive amidst the twinkling lights at night. And, from Strasbourg, you can easily hop over to Colmar, a nearby Alsatian town, that also brings the feeling of Christmas magic to life. This year’s markets will take place from November 24 to December 24 in Strasbourg.

How To Get to Strasbourg:
Fly to Paris, then take a two-hour high-speed TGV train ride to Strasbourg. American Airlines has moved completely to dynamic pricing for its AAdvantage award redemptions, however you can often find economy rates for around 22,500 miles each way from many U.S. cities to Paris. Lower-priced business-class redemptions are harder to find, but if you have some flexibility with your travel dates, you may be able to nab an award for 57,500 miles each way.
You can also book KLM or Air France to Paris using Flying Blue miles coupled with its Promo Rewards discount. Economy awards between Europe and major U.S. cities are often available for around 15,000 miles or less.
Where To Stay on Points
If you want to be in the middle of the action—which is near the market just outside of Notre Dame Cathedral of Strasbourg—use your Marriott Bonvoy points to book the Maison Rouge Strasbourg Hotel and Spa, Autograph Collection. Rooms are dynamically priced, but are currently available in late November and throughout December for between 40,000 to 54,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night. You’ll want to book as soon as possible, since this is a popular hotel that typically sells out during the holiday season.
