Womble Bond Dickinson Partner Andy Rennick will speak twice at the Tennessee Captive Insurance Association Conference on Nov. 6 in Nashville.

The two sessions are:

  • Captive 101—This session provides an introduction to captive insurance companies. As we walk through the captive lifecycle, we will discuss types of captives, the roles of different service providers, and how captives interact with the regulators.

  • You Are What Your Record Says You Are: Documenting Your Captive Insurance Program—In response to a question about the quality of his team, Hall of Fame football coach Bill Parcells snapped at a reporter, “You are what your record says you are.” This session applies Parcells’ statement to captive insurance programs, discussing the importance of not only doing things the right way, but building a meaningful record of business purpose, good corporate governance, and regulatory compliance. From the initial feasibility analysis and captive business plan to meeting minutes and insurance contracts, properly drafted documents can provide clear guidance to stakeholders and prevent confusion and misunderstandings between clients, service providers, and regulators. This session will offer the insights of a captive attorney, a captive manager, and a regulator into best practices and pitfalls in documenting captive arrangements.

Andrew Rennick is an experienced attorney who guides captive insurance companies in corporate formation, insurance regulatory and day-to-day governance issues. He is a frequent author and speaker on captive insurance topics and is a faculty member for the International Center for Captive Insurance Education. Andrew also serves as a director and member of the regulatory liaison committee of the Delaware Captive Insurance Association.
