A 22-year-old lady was arrested for allegedly throwing acid on her ex-boyfriend when he was getting married to a different lady in a village in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district, police stated on Monday.
The accused was arrested on Sunday after her involvement within the crime surfaced in the course of the investigation, stated Bastar Extra Superintendent of Police Nivedita Pal.
The incident occurred on April 19 when the groom Damrudhar Baghel (25) was getting married to a 19-year-old lady in Chhote Amabal village underneath the Bhanpuri police station limits. The groom, the bride and 10 attendees sustained minor burns within the acid assault.
Police had lodged a case underneath part 326 A (voluntarily inflicting grievous damage by use of acid, and so forth.) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) towards an unidentified accused and launched the probe.
“We scanned footage of some CCTV cameras put in within the village, activated informers and checked the background of the bride and the groom,” the police officer stated.
Ms Pal stated folks couldn’t see the accused because the incident occurred within the late night hours and the ability provide was disrupted at the moment.
The investigation revealed the involvement of a lady, who was an ex-girlfriend of the groom, following which she was taken into custody.
The accused instructed police that she and Damrudhar Baghel have been in a relationship for the final a number of years and claimed Damrudhar cheated her by marrying one other lady, Ms Pal stated.
“When the lady got here to learn about Damrudhar’s marriage, she deliberate the assault and stole acid from a chilli farm the place she works,” the police officer stated, including the acid is used to wash the drip system within the farm.
The investigation revealed that the accused lady disguised herself as a person to hide her identification whereas committing the crime, she stated.
Earlier this month, police had arrested the ex-boyfriend of a newly-married lady for allegedly planting a bomb inside a house theatre music system he gifted to the couple in Kabirdham district.
The explosion within the gear killed the lady’s husband and his elder brother.
